2008 Mutual Theme Ideas

From LDS.org -

"The First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve have approved the following as the Mutual theme for 2008: 'Be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in good works' (Mosiah 5:15).

"We encourage you to introduce the theme in December 2007. We also ask that you encourage Young Men and Young Women leaders to emphasize the theme in Mutual opening exercises and other youth activities during 2008."

Information will be sent each year from Church headquarters to priesthood leaders suggesting an annual theme for Mutual to be discussed with youth leaders. The theme may be used to provide focus for special Mutual activities such as dances, drama, speeches, sports, music, or service. Preparations for such activities should be made during Mutual. The theme may also be used as a basis for youth talks during Mutual opening exercises.

Here is a fun way to get the youth thinking about this years theme.

The Steadfast & Immovable Race
Get several dried leaves (or cotton balls). Mark start and finish lines for each team on the carpet with masking tape. Use banquet tables, if people are dressed up, so they don't have to kneel on the floor. The lanes should not be too close to each other, because the whole team will go to the finish line together. Break the youth into teams. Have the youth in each group work as a relay team so no one hyperventilates. :-) The object is to blow the leaf to the finish line the fastest. After you finish this race, tell everyone they are going to have another chance. The same rules apply, only now you pull out stones for each group to replace the leaves. See if they can blow the stones anywhere. After they have tried to blow the stones for a while, ask them, "are you a leaf or a stone?" Are your standards the same at all times and in all places or do you change depending on which friends are around you at the moment? The stone is steadfast and immovable. That is what we must be in our testimonies of Christ, in keeping our gospel standards, and in loving and serving Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. And don't forget to be "always abounding in good works, (now, here comes the reward - the wonderful promise) that Christ, the Lord God Omnipotent, may seal you his, that you may be brought to heaven, that ye may have everlasting salvation and eternal life (Mosiah 5:15)."

This came from one of our LDSGreats Editors. Nice work.
